On 4th February Norwich Writers’ Circle welcomed back academic and multi-award-winning poet Anne Sanderson.
At another one of our well-attended meetings, Anne returned to adjudicate our recent in-house poetry competition.
During her initial talk Anne described to us a variety of poetry forms. These forms – roundeau, triolet and cinquain – were to to used in our competition entries. For the competition we could either 1 rondeau, 2 triolets or up to 4 cinquains. To read Anne’s brief descriptions of these poetry styles please go here.
The visiting writer commented that we had mostly followed her competition recommendations. Anne also enjoyed reading the various poems, and the wide scope they offered.
The competition winners were then announced as:
1st – 4 Cinquains by Elizabeth Taylor
2nd – 2 Triolets by Elizabeth Bencze
3rd – 4 Cinquains by Chris Sandall
Highly Commended – 1 Rondeau by Margaret Turner
Highly Commended – 4 Cinquains by Maureen Nisbet
Highly Commended – 4 Cinquains by Andrew Heron
We were then lucky enough to all the poems entered into the competition. Many of which led to a wider discussion on the points raised within them.
